I started with excitement but lacked experience, feeling overwhelmed by the complexities of the educational field. The vast gaps in my knowledge often left me tired as I struggled to juggle the demands of both my personal and professional.

At the start of my educational journey, I was brimming with enthusiasm but fully aware of my knowledge gaps. Without any guidance, I faced daily challenges in the realm of education, propelled by eagerness but sometimes hindered by fatigue and lack of experience.

Upon entering Central Gwinnett High School, I brought an inherent passion for education and a strong desire to inspire young minds. Despite lacking formal teaching experience, I embraced continuous growth and became a skilled educator capable of nurturing inclusive and dynamic learning spaces over time.

From my humble beginnings as a novice educator at Central Gwinnett High School to my current seasoned status, my journey has been a continuous process of personal and professional growth. Leveraging my diverse experiences, I strive to create inclusive and engaging learning environments that foster curiosity, wisdom, and diverse narratives.

Insight 1: Inclusive Learning Benefits Everyone

Creating inclusive learning environments is the core of a rewarding education, as teachers hold the privilege and responsibility to nurture spaces that embrace diversity in thoughts, backgrounds, and perspectives, enabling students to engage deeply, think critically, and become empathetic global citizens.

Insight 2: You'll Evolve with Experience

My teaching journey, despite lacking formal background, was a transformative experience of continuous learning and growth, reinforcing the belief that with passion and perseverance, one can create vibrant and nurturing learning spaces where every student feels valued and supported.

In the broader perspective, the utmost priority is to nurture minds, foster understanding, and cultivate curiosity, staying dedicated to being not only a teacher but also a guide and mentor who unlocks the immense potential in every student and provides knowledge, guidance, and empathy throughout their educational journey.

Former Student/ Student Leader

There is no amount of praise or thanks in the world that I could give for the gift she has given me. Growing up, I was not the one to fight for what I believed in or even have a platform where I could enlighten myself and others. By being in her class, she showed me path of what being true to yourself meant. With many projects that not only were in her class but extended to outside the classroom I was able to overcome many fears I had. The pivotal moment that changed the entirely of my life was a podcast we did for Hispanic Heritage Month. She gave me the platform to talk about my community and some of the struggles we faced growing up in the States. This is a project that there were many Hispanic kids just like me who felt heard by some of the similar experiences that were talked about in this podcast. This made it more comfortable for me to speak about different issues in my community and it opened many doors that would not have been possible without Ms. Montgomery.

The material we learned in the class you taught stuck but what stuck with me the most was you as a person, being a teacher, a coach and being a college student definitely inspired me to know that all things are possible. I can still be in college and pursue my career, just like you did and there were never days you came in showing how tired you were or not showing up because of how tired you were. You came to class everyday with a smile and ready to teach despite whatever else was going on.

Aireane Montgomery

I bring a strong educational background, including a Master's in Secondary Social Studies from Georgia State University. As a T5 Educator at Central Gwinnett High School, I taught AP Government and Ethnic Studies, and served as the Social Studies Department Chair. I'm also the Founder, President, and CEO of Georgia Educators for Equity and Justice Incorporated, securing federal funding and guiding our team towards educational justice. Through Miss Monty Teaches LLC, I consult on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Access, Liberation, and Belonging strategies for educational startups.

I've held leadership roles at the intersection of education and justice, mentoring future educators and speaking at professional events. I've received grants and awards, including the Inaugural Educational Equity Team Award from Gwinnett County Public Schools. I've been featured on CNN and MSNBC, advocating for inclusive education.

I hold various certifications, like Advanced Placement in government and gifted endorsement, and I'm dedicated to building equitable educational environments. My career is a testament to my commitment, leadership, and success in promoting educational justice and equity.

Ms. Aireane Montgomery was my Georgia State University mentor teacher during the 2022-2023 school year. She was the perfect fit as my mentor teacher since she graduated from Georgia State University herself through the Masters of Arts in the College of Education. We coincidentally met at Central Gwinnett High School and she was the reason I survived my first year of teaching. She was always there to support me for anything I needed, whether it was stress from an academic standpoint or a mentally challenging situation. She guided me through my hardships and stood by me with everything. I honestly can't see where I would be right now without her assistance. I still consider Ms. Aireane Montgomery a mentor teacher as she is one call away.

Irfan Khan, Mentee Teacher

Ms. Montgomery's teaching prepared me for my future endeavors, because she challenged us to have a more diverse and complex level of thinking. She always prompted us with the question, " Why can't you be the one to do it?" This pushed me not to wait for others to make the change I want to see, but instead be a proponent of that change.
